Mandarin Kindergarten - Block A

What’s Included:

This “Block A” class covers Lessons 1-10 in our FLY Kindergarten Curriculum. In each Lesson, students will learn 5 vocabulary words, a question/answer dialogue segment, and a cultural fact. Subjects included in Lessons 1-10 are:

 

• Alphabet
• Greetings & Polite Phrases
• Numbers to 10
• Feelings
• Colors

 

Total Vocabulary Words Introduced: 50
Total Dialogue Segments Introduced: 21

Continuing Learning Options:

FLY’s Kindergarten Curriculum includes a total of 40 Lessons. This Block A covers Lessons 1-10. After finishing Block A, your student can continue on to Block B to cover Lessons 11-20 of the FLY Kindergarten Curriculum.

Pre-requisite for this class is Mandarin Kindergarten - Block A

Welcome to FLY Mandarin!

FLY is excited to offer an introduction to Mandarin that is specifically designed for Kindergarten students! 

We now offer auto-installment payments for multiple session purchases! Take advantage of the savings by selecting multiple blocks at registration!

 

Technical Requirements:
1. Device (personal computer, laptop, tablet, or smartphone) with a camera and speaker
2. FLY uses Canvas for classwork and Microsoft Teams for live classes 

Total Weekly Time Commitment: 1 hour

PLEASE NOTE THAT ALL LISTED TIMES ARE IN PACIFIC STANDARD TIME (PST).
Each Lesson takes about 1-hour of student time. Since this Block meets once a week, students will learn one lesson a week and will have 1-hour of work total per week.

Activities & Live Class:

  1. Watch a video (5-10 minutes):   
    Videos introduce new vocabulary words and dialogue
  2. Complete a worksheet (10-20 minutes):  
    Worksheets are explained in the video
  3. Join a live class (30 minutes):  
    Experienced FLY Teachers engage with students with interactive conversation through games,     songs, stories, and action. The live classes are a great opportunity for students to practice speaking and listening in French.

 

Established in 1995, Foreign Language for Youth ("FLY") is a non-profit 501c3 organization that teaches Spanish, French, Japanese and Mandarin Chinese to students grades K-8. For 25 years, FLY taught in-person classes in 70% of the school districts throughout Puget Sound. In March 2020, FLY transitioned our curriculums to online and expanded our remote class offerings to students across the United States.
